Job Summary: Is an essential and empowered member of the UPMC Pinnacle health care team who is responsible for all aspects of unit-based education and staff development. Provides leadership to the patient care team through continuously monitoring, analyzing, and improving the performance of clinical activities. Is a registered nurse with advanced skills and competence in the clinical area, providing direct patient care, facilitating staff education, providing feedback to the nurse manager regarding staff performance, evaluating competency of staff, and validating the appropriateness of patient care management

Job Requirements: Current active Pennsylvania RN license. Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Minimum of three year's clinical nursing experience in specific specialty area with a comprehensive knowledge base. Must demonstrate strong leadership skills and clinical competency.

Magnet Designated Campuses Effective September 1, 2014: All new and existing inpatient acute care Registered Nurses will be required to obtain their BSN within 4 years of date of hire as a Registered Nurse.

Campuses seeking Magnet Designation Effective October 1, 2017: All existing inpatient acute care Registered Nurses will be required to obtain their BSN within 4 years of October 1, 2017. All newly hired or transferred inpatient acute care Registered Nurses will be required to obtain their BSN within 4 years of their date of hire as a Registered Nurse. All existing inpatient acute care Registered Nurses with more than 20 years of RN experience will be exempt from the requirement to achieve their BSN. All existing nurse leaders are required to obtain their BSN within 4 years. All RNs applying for a nurse leader role must currently have their BSN. All RNs will be required to have their BSN prior to transitioning into a nurse leadership role regardless of years of experience/service and will not be grandfathered.

Campuses seeking Pathways to Excellence Effective October 1, 2017: All newly hired or transferred inpatient acute care Registered Nurses will be required to obtain their BSN within 4 years of their date of hire as a Registered Nurse. All existing inpatient acute care Registered Nurses with less than 20 years of RN experience are required to obtain their BSN within 10 years. All existing inpatient acute care Registered Nurses with 20 years or more of RN experience are exempt from the requirement to achieve their BSN. All existing nurse leaders are required to obtain their BSN within 4 years. All RNs applying for a nurse leader role must currently have their BSN. All RNs will be required to have their BSN prior to transitioning into a nurse leadership role regardless of years of experience/service and will not be grandfathered.
